"Espejitos por Oro" (video). SPANISH ONLY. This video directed by Jose Maria Cabral documents the public reaction to two mining initiatives in the Dominican Republic. The documentary tells the story of the successful effort to stop a mining project near a national park that would have affected 40% of the country's total water supply. Meanwhile, the film also sheds light on the damage that has already been caused by exploratory mining activities undertaken by Barrick Gold in advance of starting another mining project, which is currently undergoing a process of environmental review.
"Mineria contaminante a cielo abierto en Colombia" (video). SPANISH ONLY. This video, which features prominent members of the Colombian artistic community, was created to raise awareness about the damaging effects that large-scale mining projects are having on human and environmental health in Colombia.
"Minas de Oro, desechos de muerte" (video). SPANISH ONLY. This videos shows a CNN news report that presents the environmental problems associated with mining. The Chilean journalist describes these issues in her country, citing the potential impacts of the mines, possible solutions, and showing examples of "tailings" deposits (hazardous accumulations of ore byproduct that can spill and contaminate water supplies).
