Letter to the Pope from Indigenous Communities, Mexico

This letter was delivered to Vatican representatives upon the occassion of the Pope's visit to Mexico in February 2016:

The communities that inhabit the Río San Pedro Mezquital watershed in the Mexican state of Nayarit are being threatened by the Las Cruces hydroelectric project. Its construction puts at risk the continuity of our indigenous brothers’ and sisters’ natural heritage, and will irreversibly affect their culture, environment, and local economies.

If Your Holiness should be so kind, your support will bring hope and light to our efforts to avoid this eminent destruction.
